TELL ME WHY?

- Meboreen Mary Thongni

From the moment that I saw you,
You really touched my heart,
As time passes by,
You came closer to my heart.
Promises you made to me;
You said you’d never leave me;
But why at this moment;
You stay away from me.

Chorus: Why oh! Why tell me why
You broke your promises, oh why
You walked away like this oh why,
Please oh please tell me why.

The moments that I’ve shared with you,
They’ll never fade away,
The love and the care;
I will always spare.
Oh my love I can’t forget,
The way you hold my hand;
You whispered in my ears;
Saying that you truly love me;
But why at this moment;
You leave me away.

Bridge: Imagining those days I cry;
Why have I been such a fool?
Why can’t I understand?
You just played away, you played with me.
You hurt my feelings and my heart….
I don’t know why,
I don’t know why…

ONE DAY AT A TIME

- Meboreen Mary Thongni

In the light of God,
I will always stand.
In the love of God,
I will love all men.

I live my life,
One day at a time,
No thoughts about the past I have,
Nor worries about the future;
I just love to live,
One Day at a time.

Life has always taught me,
To grow and to know.
Life is a mystery,
We all ought to know.

I live my life;
One day at a time,
Sharing what I have with all,
Love, joy and sorrow;
I just love to live,
One day at a time.

For life is something special,
We ought to know.
Life for me is something dear,
I won’t let go.

CALLED TO BE FREE

- Meboreen Mary Thongni

With great pride we happily say:
“Happy Independence Day”
Celebrating the joy of freedom from the British,
Recollecting the aspirations and dreams of our freedom fighters;
Yet our hearts and minds are wondering,
What exactly is Independence?

Deeper and deeper as I move along,
I find myself being dependent and tied up with new bonds;
We all are forced to do and act;
In reality we all are ignoring the fact.
We are blind to what is happening around us;
The spark of awareness is missing from inside us.

Let us open our eyes to many varieties,
Problems arising day by day in our country;
Prices of food and medicine have soared beyond the reach,
People go through life without satisfying their needs;
Educated men striving for employment,
While the uneducated are dying of starvation.

Let us unite together and build a better world,
Let us make the purpose of life to be a life of purpose;
Initiatives to be taken by one and all,
To understand and become truly independent;
We all are called to be free,
Then we can stand up and freely say:
“Happy Independence Day”
